Salmon exports have decreased 18% in the 10th Region

Chile: The salmonids exported from the 10th Region totalized USD 579.6 million as of April 2010, representing a 18.52% decrease compared to the USD 711.4 million obtained during the same period of the last year.

Christian Pérez

Besides, according to an exports analysis performed by the Export Promotion Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ProChile), export of salmonids represented a 70.71% of the products shipped from that region.

The three main products exported from the region in the period January to April 2010 were: frozen Coho salmon representing a 17.52% of the total exports worth USD 140 million; frozen trout with a 12.44% of the total exports and worth USD 99 million; and frozen trout fillets with a 10.28% and USD 82.2 million. Together, those three products accounted for a 40.24% of the regional total.

Likewise, the main markets for salmonids exported from the 10th Region in the first four months of this year were Japan (49%), United States (18%), Brazil (12%), Russia (3%), Thailand (3%) and China (2%).
