Bakkafrost entertains high profile visitors

Canada: On separate occasions, the Faroe Island company hosts royalty and an ambassador. Established in 1968, Bakkafrost lists as its values Value, Innovation and Reliability.

Odd Grydeland

Following the introduction of strict new regulations for their salmon farming operations in 2003, Bakkafrost claims that both the biological and financial performance of its operations have improved. The company was recently the subject of two high-profile visits, starting with the June 29 facility tour by the Queen and Prince of Denmark. A company release stated;

Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark and His Royal Highness The Prince, visited at Bakkafrost 29th of June.

The Chief Executive Officer Mr. Regin Jacobsen had a presentation of the company and thereafter he showed them the production of salmon portions. Afterwards there was reception and a gift of salmon from Bakkafrost was handed to the Royal Couple. Bakkafrost is the leading Faroese producer and exporter of salmon products. We provide fresh salmon to the fresh fish markets, smokehouses and processors of ready meals and we do have a long experience in making large contract sales on frozen vacuum packed portions to major retailers in Europe.

Some key points, which we believe makes us one of the best and most reliable salmon supplier in the industry:

·

Totally separated farming areas (fjords) with excellent biological conditions

·

Stable water temperature through the year gives excellent growth conditions for Atlantic Salmon

·

Strong currents ensuring continuous flow of fresh sea water

·

Low mortality due to strict regulatory framework

·

Lowest average feed conversion ration and mortality in the industry

This week, it was the US Ambassador’s turn for a visit, prompting the following News Release;

The Ambassador of the United States of America visits Bakkafrost

The visit was hosted by the chairman of Bakkafrost, Mr. Rúni Hansen and the CEO Regin Jacobsen. The CEO gave a presentation of the company and faroese fish farming industry to the Ambassador, and different subjects in relation with the trade between the two contries, especially the export of faroese salmon to the United States.

The Ambassador expressed her positive impression about faroese salmon, the quality and reputation on the US market, and the importance to maintain the good environmental and veterinary situation in faroese fishfarming.
